Many times there are small plumbing problems around the house that homeowners like to try to fix themselves. But plumbing in a home is a complex system, which requires the extensive training of a professional plumber. The easiest things to fix such as clogs and leaky faucets can be scheduled and aren’t typically an emergency. Here are 5 signs you need a professional plumber as soon as possible!
If you smell the pungent smell of rotten eggs, or sewage inside your home, you need immediate help from a plumbing professional. This could be the sign of a sewage back up. It’s not a good idea to let it wait until it actually backs up into your home. There could be a vent not working somewhere which needs to be fixed immediately.
Hear Running Water
Do you hear running water even when there’s no one using any? This is most likely due to a leak. You shouldn’t be hearing running water when there’s none being used, and if you are, you need to call a plumber to find the source of the leak and fix it fast.
If you turn on a faucet or shower, and see brown or red water coming out, there’s a problem. The water should be clear. If it isn’t, there’s most likely a burst pipe somewhere or that your pipes are very old. If the water is white or cloudy, it means that there is air in your pipes. Green water means the copper pipes are corroded. Any color other than clear needs the attention of a professional plumber.
Do you hear your pipes knocking while showering, bathing or running the sink? There can be quite a few causes of that, but one cause is too much pressure, which can loosen the support straps on the pipes, and if left untreated, can cause the pipes to shift and potentially spring a leak or bend and break free from their mountings.
If you turn on the faucet and nothing comes out every once and a while, there could be a leak you don’t know about either underground, or behind the walls. You need a plumbing expert to detect where the leak is coming from.
