Living in Port Charlotte, we know we have hard water. It’s very different than water in other parts of the country, and even the state. We know this because we see the water stains in our showers, our sinks, probably even our glasses and definitely feel it in our hair and clothes. It doesn’t make it unsafe, it just is a nuisance, and it makes our appliances work harder, as well as making them break down quicker. Thankfully, McDonough Plumbing is your hard water expert! We have equipment ready for you to give you soft water.

Hard and Soft Water

But how do you get hard or soft water?

When it rains, water is soft. When it lands on our soil, it passes through and picks up all of the minerals in Florida’s ground. This includes magnesium, chalk, calcium, and lime. As mentioned above, we see the deposits left behind on our cookware and shower doors, even the bottoms of our sinks.

When you have soft water, it’s been treated to remove the minerals mentioned above. Water softeners are equipped with beads, which are negatively charged to work with sodium and potassium, these are positively charged. Then those positive beads remove the calcium and magnesium. They all just swish together giving the ending result of soft water.

The benefit of soft water is that it cleans so much better than hard water, and it isn’t clogging up your appliances. You’ll notice it in your clothes, your hair, your sinks and showers. You won’t need as much soap to do your laundry and dishes. And you won’t see soap scum everywhere. Both your pipes and appliances will have a longer lifespan and work more efficiently too.
