Keep the water flowing with some easy plumbing tips. A little prevention or maintenance goes a long way in the plumbing department. McDonough Plumbing is here to keep Punta Gorda and Charlotte area homeowners’ water flowing with these easy plumbing tips.
Have you ever noticed that your faucet isn’t providing that steady stream of water it once used to? Fixing that can be as easy as replacing the faucet aerator. It’s the little piece at the tip of your faucet, it resembles a screen. If you unscrew that and either clean it with some vinegar or replace it entirely, your water should start streaming like new!
Shower Head Clogs
The same problem can happen with a shower head. This is usually due a calcium deposit build up. To clean a shower head, simply fill a plastic bag with vinegar, place it over the shower head and attach it with an elastic band or a zip tie and let it sit for a day or two. This should break down the build up and leave you with a nice clean shower head. Test it out by running the shower and make sure that all clogs are gone. If the problem persists; you might want to look into installing a water softener system in your home.
Save Your Drains
Are you forever clearing long hair from clogged shower drains? Save your drains (and hard work) by adding a hair catcher to your shower. This is a simple and small investment for any homeowner, especially if you have women in the house with long hair. It catches the hair before it’s allowed to enter the drain, saving you from standing in water, and digging the hair out of the drain!
Do you think your flapper is leaking? Sometimes you know because there’s that constant hissing sound, other times it’s not so obvious, here’s a simple test.
Food coloring to the rescue! Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank (back of toilet). Let it sit there for about 25 minutes. Go back and check the toilet bowl for color. If there is food coloring in the bowl, then the flapper is leaking.
